A Review of Sculpting Art Development in Taiwan: The 1970s

Entering its 14th year, the Juming Museum in Taipei is actively positioning itself as specializing in the area of sculpture, and paying attention to groundbreaking and seminal academic research. The ongoing series of exhibitions on the trajectory of Taiwanese sculpture represents part of this core initiative. Following the examination of Taiwanese sculpture of the 1960s (which opened in 2010), “A Great Era: Sculpting Art in Taiwan in the 1970s” is the second show in this series. The intention is to continue with research and exhibiting year after year, so as to enable visitors to form an overall understanding of the historical development of Taiwanese sculpture, and also.....

Famous Painting in the Spotlight: Hua Yan's "Album of Sketches from Life"

Hua Yan was born in Shanghang, Fujian, in 1682 during the reign of Qing dynasty’s Kangxi Emperor. He left home at 22 for Hangzhou and devoted himself to poetry, painting, and calligraphy, eventually becoming an all-around artist with considerable literary talent. This "Album of Sketches from Life" is a fascinating masterpiece of painting entrusted to the National Palace Museum in Taipei from the Lanqian Shanguan collection. It is actually mounted as two separate albums, each containing twelve leaves. Judging from a combination of evidence, such as painting technique, style of calligraphy, and use of seals, the two albums are most likely Hua Yan's late work from after the age of sixty......

MEET TAIPEI :Shanghai Oil Painting & Sculpture Exhibition

The exhibition, held at Taipei Fine Arts Museum until September 16, 2012, gathers 33 works by 21 Shanghai artists including the representative works of artists active on Shanghai’s modern art stage and even the international art stage. An Exhibition of Duan An-guo’s Leather Art

Taiwan's leather art is built on the basis of the craft of leather carving which is originally applied to productions for practical usages. With more ingenious ideas from creative artists, a vivid 3-D figure of leather works has gradually taken shape. The application of colors and diverse forms has also had break-through developments. The innovative art is named leather sculpture. The essence of leather sculpture is to reveal the expression of the created characters, conveying rich stories and imaginations initiated by the artists. Children's NPM Digital Art Exhibition

The exhibition, currently showing at National Palace Museum in Taipei until September 16, 2012, focuses on "integrating art and technology". Using digital art techniques to interpret treasures in the NPM collection, it provides a new appearance for these precious artworks. With easy to understand methods, the introduction to the digital artworks also includes scientific principles applied to the installations.
