Dialogue Between Shidong Miao Traditional Clothing and Modern Taiwanese Design

The Miao is one of several ethnic minorities living in Southwestern China. Shidong, a small Miao town, is known for its extraordinary handcrafted textiles and silver jewelry. Woman’s dresses from Shidong are considered the most gorgeous because of their intricate embroidered dresses and splendid silver adornments. In this exhibition, scheduled to run through October 14, 2012 at National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung, 61 pieces of selected needlework of Shidong women are displayed, including textiles, .....

Archaeology and Ruins of the Angkor in Cambodia

The traveling exhibit of some fifty photographs began in 2010 at the Musée Cernuschi in Paris, then went on to Siem Reap the following year and is at National Palace Museum in Taipei until October 14, 2012. It is organized around seven main themes and presents the archaeological research carried out by the EFEO in Cambodia, as well as the various periods in the history of the Khmer Empire (802-1431) through its monuments. Critical Realism in Taiwanese Photographic Arts since 1990

WU Chang-Jung: Documentary XIII-The Kaleidoscopig Farm Cuckoo Clock

Pigs squeak according to their daily needs. They squeak for food and newborn piglets squeak for “help” when their mothers’ enormous bodies come down on them. There are other types of squeaks. When we work on a non-automated pig farm, the sounds and squeaks have become a very important part of our job that requires extra attention.
This work records all the events that routinely take place on a pig farm. The real images and imaginative impressions of the easily mistaken sounds and corresponding images are placed side by side, overlapped, recalled, and are ultimately constructed into the reality heard and seen. .....

Mores Zhan: Ritual of Cathode Ray Tube

Since the advent of the digital era, television and communication interfaces have become the most prominent means of receiving information. The information converted from digital signals can be used not only to express individual perception but also to produce and influence collective opinion. Zhan’s featured work was awarded The Creation Project for Digital Art 2012 and uses animation to express his views on contemporary Taiwanese media. The implied symbols in his work, showcased at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung till 30 September 2012, are embedded in a torn-open CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) screen. The screen is laid out to serve as a musical score allowing the conductor to lead the people in the performance of a nonsense chant. .....
