GOLD AND GLORY: The Wonders of Khitan from the Inner Mongolia Museum Collection

This exhibition at the National Palace Museum features the collections held by the Inner Mongolia Museum, mainly but not limited to the Liao artifacts that have been handed down through generations or unearthed in more recent times. Also included are rare gold, silver, and other kinds of wares from various tribes on the great steppe and, above all, from the three major Khitan grave sites. These famous archaeological finds have dazzled the world with their remarkable exquisiteness and singular uniqueness. Water and Ink Flowing with Feeling: The Painting and Calligraphy of Chen Chun

From January 13 to March 25, 2010, National Palace Museum is showcasing the work of Chen Chun (1483-1544), one of the Ming Dynasty masters (http://www.npm.gov.tw/en/visiting/exhibit/exhibit_02.htm?docno=614). Chen Chun was born into a literati family and delved into learning from childhood. He once studied poetry and prose, calligraphy, and painting from the master Wen Zhengming (1470-1559); he admired and emulated Shen Zhou (1427-1509) as well. Considered an artist in the Wu school of Chinese painting, Chen Chun ranks only after Shen Zhou and Wen Zhengming in this school of literati art.

 
Han Shih-chiu Memorial Exhibition of Calligraphy and Ink Painting

As a reputed artist and teacher, Han Shih-chiu (1913-1979) epitomized the noble virtues of an outstanding artist. He not only dedicated years to teaching Chinese calligraphy and painting, but also continued his artistic practice at the same time. Around 60 works that Han created from 1931 to 1978 and some of his seals, painting albums, manuscripts and notes, which were generously provided by his family, will be exhibited at the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts from January 14, 2010 to March 16, 2010 (link).

 

 
Children's Literature Reading Room at NMTL

On December 6, 2009, the National Museum of Taiwan Literature reopened its Children's Literature Reading Room, welcoming children with a new look, improved reading environment and a series of educational activities (http://www.nmtl.gov.tw/en/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1475&Itemid=200). To celebrate the refurbishing of the Reading Room and NMTL’s special exhibition of “Listening to the Sea Melody through the Woods: Literary Works of Lin Hai-Yin”, the Reading Room is holding a "Stories from childhood: Lin Hai-Yin's children's literature book exhibition and activity series" till March 1, 2010.

  

 
Figures and Genre in the Art and Aesthetics of Form: Selections from the History of Chinese Painting

From January 1 to March 25, 2010, the human figure as a subject in Chinese painting is presented at the National Palace Museum (http://www.npm.gov.tw/en/visiting/exhibit/exhibit_02.htm?docno=609). This exhibition focuses primarily on the rich and beautiful variety of figure and genre paintings from the Yuan (1279-1368), Ming (1368-1644), and Qing (1644-1911) periods. The selection of sixteen sets of works on display includes Wang Zhenpeng's (fl. 1280-1329) "Dragon Boat Race by the Baojin Hall," Tang Yin's (1470-1524) "Imitating a Lady Painting by a Tang Artist," Qiu Ying's (ca. 1494-1552) "Orthodoxy of Rulers Through the Ages," Wu Bin's (16th-17th c.) "Record of Annual Events and Activities," Leng Mei's (fl. 17th-18th c.) "Illustrations of Agriculture and Sericulture," and Yang Dazhang's (fl. 18th c.) "Imitating a Painting of Jinling by Song Court Artists."
