In the Chinese culture, dragon symbolizes power and excellence, valiancy and boldness, heroism and perseverance, nobility and divinity. For Chinese, everything connected with dragons is blessed. Naruwan--Life finds a way--Taiwan Indigenous Artists Exhibition 2012

The word “Naruwan” originally came from an Amis folk song, but has been widely used by all parts of Taiwanese society. It is a meaningless word used as a greeting or an introductory particle, and everyone can use it to express his or her feelings. The exhibition’s thematic idea transforms this word into a meaningful aesthetic concept. “Life finds a way” refers to indigenous artists’ pursuit of their own ways and state of development after diverging from traditional paths. Life Is But a Dream: Art World of Chan Fu-yun

Chan Fu-yun is a highly influential figure in the art community in southern Taiwan. He has been awarded with numerous prizes and honors for his paintings. Now at the age of 85, he is still a dedicated and active artist. Sons of the Sun—The Myths and Legends of the Paiwan People

The National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung opens this exhibition to interpret the history and culture of the Paiwan tribe. The Paiwan live in the mountains of southern Taiwan and are divided into the Raval and Butaul branches. They are noted for their wood and stone sculpture. The Butual branch holds a major sacrificial rite every five years, called maleveq, to invite the spirits of their dead ancestors to come and bless the living. The exhibition, which is scheduled to close on May 27, 2012, has seven themes: “The Incredible Sun Egg on Mt. Dawu,” “History on Canvas,” “Taken from Nature, Used in Nature,” .....

Francis Bacon-The Tip of an Iceberg

Born in Dublin, Ireland, Francis Bacon (1909-1992) is one of the most representative painters in the 20th century. This exhibition of Bacon’s drawings, at Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts until May 20, 2012, is the first time that they are exhibited in Asia. In addition to showcasing the drawings, the exhibition also presents images illustrating Bacon’s life and studio. Visitors can learn how Bacon used blurry, blended colors and powerful, dynamic strokes to portray indiscernible faces as if to expose the spiritual states hidden under faces of different people in the society. .....
