Guanshiyin Bodhisattva is one of the two highest-status Bodhisattva accompanying the Buddha. According to legend, when encountering troubles, as long as people faithfully chant her name, Guanshiyin Bodhisattva will hear their calling and come to their rescue. This merciful and almighty Bodhisattva is therefore greatly loved and admired. At around the time of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, due to the impact of Chinese Buddhism, the statue representations of Guanshiyin turned from a male to a female. The combination of Guanshiyin, Sudhana (the Wealth Boy), and Dragon Princess in the print is a fairly common worship scene.
