The Rasborinus formosa has a flat and long body, with a silvery white luster to its slightly yellow body. A black stripe can be found on its body side. It has large eyes and a pointed snout, and its body length ranges from 3 to 7cm. It dwells in eutrophic and semi-enclosed water regions of low-transparency. It likes to hide in places where aquatic plant growth is lush. Its diet includes small biological organisms and organic detritus. It is often found in ponds in the northern part of Taiwan, but due to land development and the deterioration of water quality among other factors, they are now on the brink of extinction.
