Forum for Creativity in Art When Spaces Became Events...Dispositif of Modernity in the 1980s, Taiwan

Through this exhibition at Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts (links), the curator, Wang Pin-hua, intends to go back to the 1980s and relive the memories of people taking to the street in Taiwan and review all the experiments and controversies in the realm of arts back then. This exhibition can inspire us to rethink if the so-called “public space” in the 80s is really a result of the mass movement and alternative media development. It can also make us wonder whose history is represented through the “events” caused by the involvement of art in society. The exhibition, which ends on January 6, 2013, showcases works by artists of different generations using different creative media. In addition, there are documents and records in the exhibition that witness how the social and spatial changes before and after the 80s have played a key role in the transitions of art concepts in Taiwan.
