Green: Longquan Celadon of the Ming Dynasty

From January 25 to October 15, 2009, beautiful works of Longquan wares are displayed in Gallery 304 of the National Palace Museum (http://www.npm.gov.tw/en/visiting/exhibit/exhibit_04.htm?docno=526). Longquan celadon refers to Chinese celadons that were produced in Longquan kilns located in Zhejiang province. By the Song dynasty (960-1279), artisans had established Longquan’s signature glossy, rich, green glaze, a tradition which continued through the Yuan (1279-1368) and Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The present exhibition focuses on the Ming dynasty Longquan wares: their use in court, appreciation by the literati, and unique role in tributary and trade relations between the empire and other nations.
