Photo of Chen Qingzhong 陳清忠照片

Chen Qingzhong (middle one) is the father of American football in Taiwan. He was the captain of the American football team at the time of this picture (sponsored by Tamkang High School History Hall). He is well-known as a pioneer in sports, music and education. The release of Mustard Seed adds to Cheng’s contribution to the society, who was the founder, initial distributor, editor-in-chief of the publication. After 1925, he began translating works of western literature, philosophy, theology and some other thought-provoking articles into Taiwanese vernacular, and published his translations in both Mustard Seed and Taiwan Church News. These groundbreaking efforts opened an important path for Taiwanese literature during the Japanese Colonial Period.
