White-whiskered Laughing-thrush

Description:
Unmistakable elongated(69 cm) azure-blue magpie with black head and upper breast. Tail feathers tipped black and white, central two feathers very long. Iris--pale yellow; bill--scarlet; feet--red.
Distribution:
Absent from cleared western lowlands, but otherwise not uncommon from 300-1200m in wooded hill.
Habitat:
A social breeder. Lives in small parties; similar habits to Red-billed Magpie of mainland. Descends to lower altitudes in winter.
Ecology:Alarm call is cracking chatter kyak-kyak-kyak-kyak, higher-pitched than Black-billed Magpie. Harsh ringing ga-kang. Also softer kwee-eep or gar-suee calls.
