A vast volume of information about the mining industry is collected in the Economic Archives of the Institute of Modern History. The earliest documents were issued by the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture, Industry, and Commerce during the late Qing Dynasty, followed by the Republic of China’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, Ministry of Industry, and Ministry of Economic Affairs and Resources after the Republic Era.

Documents are records of the process produced when national agencies, organizations, enterprise departments, and individuals interact with the government. Documents are also tools for people to handle daily affairs and chronicle the comprehensive history of social development. Every dynasty has different spoken and written languages, forms and frames, and documentation systems. These changes have special historical meanings. Documentation systems, related political systems, and social change should also be included in discussions when studying the historical texts.

In the late nineteenth century, due to poor industrial development in China, China’s market was filled with foreign products. To prevent foreigners from obtaining all of the benefits and controlling the Chinese market, citizens started to boycott foreign products and promote domestic products. In 1905, to demonstrate their rights and maintain trade benefits, Chinese people began boycotting foreign products with the reason that Chinese laborers were persecuted by the American government.

The rare book collections in the Fu Ssu-Nien Library (FSNL) are of great value and relevance to sinologists all over the world. These rare book collections include: The goal of the FSNL’s digitization project is to provide for the best possible preservation of the rare books mentioned above, as well as to provide readers and scholars with the easiest access to these works. The FSNL has been working on two topics common to all project participants: the digitization of Ming-edition works by  Ming literati and the digitization of illustrations in antique books. Furthermore, in relation to its particular collections, and with an eye to integrating digitized images with common research topics, the FSNL has also selected its own targets for digitization, including materials pertaining to medical sciences, archaeology, .....
