A photograph of flowers may come from a sudden impulse to press the camera shutter or from a special trip to a field. Taichung City is one of three major metropolitan areas in Taiwan. It is a multifaceted modern city with modern buildings and city-wide transportation network. Even so, there are some locations in Taichung that maintain atmosphere of traditional culture. For instance, Nantun Old Street still has many traditional buildings and industries. Merely about 400 years of Taiwanese history has been documented in writings. Other than the records of Han Chinese, there are also historical records in the texts of Spain, Dutch, and Japan. Artifacts from Ethnic Groups of Southern China

The exhibition on ethnic groups departs from traditional displays of ethnic groups. Conventionally, museums emphasize the differences between ethnic groups; but here the exhibition explores mainly the concepts of "identity" and "distinction."
