“The Pioneers” of Taiwanese Artists, 1931-40

“The Pioneers” series presented by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung focuses on artists born between 1931 and 1980 to showcase their individual styles and depict the face of fine arts in post-World War Two Taiwan. This exhibition kicks off with the class of artists born between 1931 and 1940 to illustrate their impact on Taiwanese fine arts. This particular class is characterized by the most complicated set of backgrounds among the six classes featured in the series. Roughly divided into two groups, those born in Taiwan and those born in China before World War Two, all of these artists experienced the ravages and tumult of wartime and grew up in post-war Taiwan. Innovation & Re-creation: Selected Works from the NTMoFA Young Artist Collection

The “Young Artist Collection” project of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung was initiated in 2003. As of 2012, the project has collected 676 works by 456 artists. By taking innovation and re-creation as essential elements in the young artists’ creative process, this exhibition aims to draw a clearer picture of the uniqueness and significance manifested in the selected works. The exhibition, which will end on April 7, 2013, selected 69 pieces of work by respective artists and divided the work into 4 sub-themes: “A Shout through Youth: Lovable Characters and Social Critique,” .....

Changsha Porcelain from NMH Collection

The Changsha kiln from Tang dynasty was first discovered in 1956. Porcelain from the Changsha kiln, which is located in Hunan Province, China, was the earliest trade porcelain of China. Its underglaze color, especially the copper red glaze, started a new age of color porcelain for later generations. The most representative form of Changsha porcelain is water dropper; these artifacts are usually decorated with flower and bird pattern, animal pattern, or calligraphic pattern.
