Dragon and Phoenix: The Year of the Dragon

The dragon is regarded as the most noble of mythological animals. The Chinese people consider themselves to be descended from dragons. The phoenix is the king of the birds and, because it is considered capable of predicting order and disorder in the world, became an omen of peace. The exhibition, currently showing at National Center for Traditional Arts in Yi-Lan until December 9, 2012, focuses on the cultural significance of the dragon and phoenix, their historical origins, status as auspicious symbols, place in customs and religious life, and artistic expression. .....

Distant Rainbow: Shyu Ruey Shiann Solo Exhibition

Rainbows are where stories begin and are in everyone’s dreams. Shyu Ruey Shiann relies on many years of experience and intuition to transform and reorganize objects he has collected since childhood, blending new technology into old stories to create a subtle mix. Like a poetic rendition of waking from a dream, his mechanized installation slowly reveals memories of childhood wishes. Illusion Reality: The Photo Exhibition of Shen Chao-Liang

Since the 1970s, performance troupes have been enlivening many of Taiwan’s weddings, funerals and other special occasions. Photographs for the three series presented in this exhibition at Taipei Fine Arts Museum—Stage, Singer and Stage and Taiwanese Vaudeville Troupes —were taken between 2005 and 2011. The series are composed of stand-alone, large-scale photographs, grouped images, visual contrasts and video works, which focus on performers and their various skills, and include temporal, spatial, horizontal, vertical, flat and three-dimensional visual interpretations. Land of Fertility
