Carps Leaping over the Dragon Gate

Tags: carp | dragon gate | print

Legend has it that as long as the carps in the water swim against the tide and flow over the dragon gate waterfalls, they will immediately transform into dragons, rise into the sky, mount the clouds and ride the mist, and travel throughout the universe. This legend imparts the moral that hard work will be rewarded, and that people can get rid of back luck and further themselves rapidly up the social ladder as boundlessly as the sea and sky, gaining wealth and rank. Hence, the saying is as follows: “With the pass over the dragon gate comes a hundredfold rise in wealth and prestige.”
