The Large Vase

Tags: blessing | print

This blessing print is complicated in its composition. A large vase with many different flowers in it means that all will be “safe and well” (ping an). There are images of a zither, Chinese chess, calligraphy, and painting which represent the refined, leisurely activities of the literati. There are also images of san duo (the pomegranate, the chayote, and the peach), the three symbols of many sons, good fortune, and longevity. Also included are many other objects associated with auspicious and festive meanings. It is highly decorative.
