Built at the River Clyde shipyards in Glasgow , Scotland , for many years the majestic Queen Mary was the largest and fastest ocean liner afloat. She is over 1000 feet long and in her day could cruise at 28.5 knots carrying over 2000 passengers. During the Second World War she served as a troop carrier. Now she rests in Long Beach , California , and has been converted into a combination hotel and convention center.
