The Battleship "Yamato"

Tags: battleship | craft

Built in 1941, the Yamato was the largest battleship in the world at the time,  with a displacement of 72,900 tons, far above the limit set by the Washington Treaty. Her 18-inch guns also exceeded the limit of 16 inches set by the treaty. She had massively thick armor plating and enormous fire power. During the battle of Samar in October 1944, Yamato sank the U.S. aircraft carrier Gambier Bay , but she herself was sunk off Kyushu on April 7, 1945.
