Tags: battleship | craft

Named after the Italian pilot who first mapped the New World, and from whose name comes the word “ America ”, the Amerigo Vespucci was built at Castellmare and launched in 1931. She is still in service as a navy cadet training vessel and carries a crew of 550. Her sails are supplemented by diesel-electric motors that give her a cruising speed of 10.5knots.
