Shang Dynasty

This Zong is shaped like a tube; its form resembles a Chuan, or bracelet, but is taller. It originates from the shape of chimney and derives from the ancient sacrifice to Jung Liou, or the house. Later, influenced by the concepts of the five elements, its form gradually conforms to the belief that heaven is round and earth is rectangular. This Zong is made from white jade and has some purple brown water spots. An early example of Zong, this artifact is smooth and diaphanous.
