Dating from 1885, this is the first page of the first issue of Taiwan Prefectural City Church News, now simply called Taiwan Church News in it’s continued weekly publication. Consequently, it is considered the longest running newspaper in Taiwan. From 1885 to March 1969, the newspaper printed in the Roman alphabet of the Church, until the Nationalist Government forbade of its use and printing switched to Mandarin Chinese. Although the content mostly concerned religious affairs, the paper also regularly included news from abroad, reports on advances in thought and learning, novels, poetry, and other articles. Taiwan Church News remains   multi-faceted publication.
