NPM's Anime Carnival

The National Palace Museum in Taipei houses more than 650,000 treasured items, including ceramics, jades, coins, paintings, bronze, calligraphy, yet less than ten thousands of items can be displayed in the Museum at the same time due to limited exhibition/gallery space. Moreover, an artwork in the Museum’s painting and calligraphy collection is displayed for no more than three months at a time in order to protect these ancient treasures from damages caused by environmental conditions such as lighting. This limitation of display gradually highlights the role of technology in the field of arts. In 2000, the Museum started the digital archive projects to digitalize the artworks in its collection. Curators, exhibition designers, multimedia artists are brought together, selecting famous artworks that offer rich narratives and providing these artworks with alternative interpretation through audio, lighting and interaction design.

This exhibition, which runs until March 16, 2013 at Taya Elementary School in Taichung (http://www.npm.gov.tw/en/Article.aspx?sNo=04004554), presents digital installations developed in the past 2 years, as well as popular animation films and replicas of the most classic, rarely-exhibited treasures.
