An Exhibition of Duan An-guo’s Leather Art
Taiwan's leather art is built on the basis of the craft of leather carving which is originally applied to productions for practical usages. With more ingenious ideas from creative artists, a vivid 3-D figure of leather works has gradually taken shape. The application of colors and diverse forms has also had break-through developments. The innovative art is named leather sculpture. The essence of leather sculpture is to reveal the expression of the created characters, conveying rich stories and imaginations initiated by the artists.

Duan An-guo is one of few artists engaging in leather art in Taiwan. He is skillful at illustrating the life of nobodies and all fields in the society in humorous and delicate manners. Most of his works are done in a nostalgia tune. The facial expression and movements of the characters are full of spirits, presenting a unique artistic signature. Duan has received numerous awards in Taiwan and the honors in Japan and the USA. His superior achievements in leather art have earned him a privileged fame globally. Through September 16, 2012, the leather work of Duan’s work can be seen at National Center for Traditional Arts in Yi-Lan (http://www.ncfta.gov.tw/events/leather/introduction.html).
