This is Michio Chujo’s manuscript of recording his research of entomology in Taiwan during the period of 1932 and 1935, detailing various aspects of the behavior of insects and his life during the field work. This recording faithfully showcases the research and life of entomologists in Taiwan during the Japanese Colonial Period, demonstrating their undivided attention and enthusiasm towards research, and further enables us to know more about the natural conditions and people of the time. We may also find the geographic names recorded in the manuscript rather familiar. What is of particular interest in this manuscript is the recording of some of the rare insects such as the Broad-tailed Swallowtail Butterfly (Agehana maraho). We are indebted for Professor Emeritus Chu Yao-Yi’s excellent Chinese translation of the manuscript. The original manuscript is currently preserved by the Department and Graduate Institute of Entomology, National Taiwan University.
