Hou-lou Vessel

Tags: bronzes | National Palace Museum | vessel | Western Han

Western Han period (206 BC-AD 9)
Height: 18.8 cm, weight: 1.62 kg

The hou-lou is a vessel for wine that was commonly used in the Han dynasty. The name derives as a synonym for the peaks that decorate its cover, the three mountain ridges seen here having been made with great refinement.
