The use of jade mentioned in bronze inscriptions indicate that it was chiefly used for rewards, edicts, gifts, entertaining, and sacrifices. The mention of a "jade huang" in the inscription on this bronze vessel testifies to the ancient ceremonial statute of "ceremony is defined by jade and silk".
