Michael DeGasperis, who is VHCC s board chairperson and a local developer, defended the decision to hire the former councillor during an interview this week. He said Mr. Meffe has sufficient planning experience along with other important skills needed to do the job. "Part of being a councillor is planning for the city.. Peter is one that has extensive experience, as someone that had been in office (for about) 16 or 18 years. And he s someone who has networking ability and relationships at all levels of government and understands the process," Mr. DeGasperis said. "We weren t looking for a certified planner, so to speak. We have consultants who do that kind of work and to do all the design and planning and all the servicing and civil works." For his part, Mr. Meffe said it s up to the board of directors to determine whether or not he s qualified to fill the position. "I think, at the end of the day, if moncler men coats I m able to accomplish the goals that the VHCC has set out then that will be proof in the pudding," he said. "If I m not able to then I will move on." VHCC is the not for profit organization in charge of planning and developing a number of ancillary health care services meant to complement, and, ultimately help fund, the proposed Vaughan hospital being planned for the 87 acre site at Jane Street and Major Mackenzie Drive. The city bought the site for about $60 million and has committed an additional $20 million to help cover the costs of servicing and developing the land. Ms Gorgenyi and Mr. Meffe were hired by VHCC to lead the team undertaking that work. Originally, VHCC was looking for a CEO and a project manager, but things moncler pharrell vest changed during the hiring process, Mr. DeGasperis said. He said Ms Gorgenyi and Mr. Meffe ranked among the top choices from a slate of more than 60 applicants seeking the CEO post. In order to bring both of them to the VHCC, the hiring committee which consisted of Mr. DeGasperis, Quinto Annibale, Robert Bradbury, Lou Greenbaum, Sam Ciccolini and former VHCC administrator Anastasia Vogt recommended scrapping the project manager position and creating a vice president position. "When we came down to it we found both Melinda and Peter being very good, very strong with great strengths to lead the VHCC," Mr. DeGasperis said. "So we revised the positions and hired them both, basically, and had our board approve them with the positions and the salaries." Mr. DeGasperis would not disclose exactly how much Ms Gorgenyi and Mr. Meffe are being paid, but confirmed it s less than $200,000 a year. "We re sworn to confidentiality on both ends," he said. "But I can tell you that it s within the board approved salary range." Mr. Meffe comes to the VHCC after serving five terms on council. He was first elected in the late 80s and stayed in office until the late 90s. He returned to Vaughan s political scene in 2003 and represented Maple s Ward 1 until last October s election, when he lost the seat to Marilyn Iafrate. During his final term, Mr. Meffe was chair of the city s official plan review committee. He s also been involved with fundraising efforts to help bring a hospital to Vaughan for several years. Mr. Meffe said his time on council combined with the knowledge he acquired as owner of an electrical company make him a good fit for his latest role. "My experience with the Vaughan official plan, that obviously won awards from the Ontario Provincial Planning institute, certainly brings that (planning) component to the moncler Book blue white Hoodies Spring Autumn Men table," said the 55 year old. "My knowledge and relationships and abilities for intergovernmental relationships certainly is extensive. And my knowledge of Vaughan and its planning regimen and its economy will certainly provide me in good stead to move this project forward." While he s excited to be involved in helping bring more health care services to Vaughan, Mr. Meffe said he s not planning to stick around for the long haul. "It s not a lifelong career for me.
