The God of Wealth of the Five Directions

Tags: god | print

This is a single piece of decorative painting. On its light-green background are patterns of “errant clouds”. In the middle stands a God of Wealth dressed in a ceremonial civil-official costume, unfurling a scroll that reads Wu Lu Jin Cai (wealth gathered from all directions). In front of the god are a large treasure pot and five children who are either standing or sitting, each holding an object that symbolizes treasure, including yao qian shu (a tree from which money falls when shaken), a steed, ingots, and so forth. The five children appear cheery and adorable. The painting, with its elaborate style and dazzling colors, can be considered a masterpiece.
