The Hymenoptera are a very interesting group in terms of their biology, because they exhibit a great diversity of habits and complexity of behavior culminating in the social organization of the wasps, bees and ants. From the human standpoint, this order is probably the most beneficial in the entire insect class. It contains a great many species that are of value as paraites or predators of insect pests, and it contains the most important pollinators of plants. There are about 115 thousand described species from all areas, of which 2800 species occur in Taiwan. Approximately 920 thousand specimens are deposited at this TARI.
