Tri-colored horse

Tags: figurine | pottery | Tang dynasty

The head of this tri-color horse is small and facing left; its body is plump yet hollow, with four legs standing stately on a rectangular plate. The horse bears a saddle-like ornament, decorated with heart-shape pendants. Its mane runs vividly under the orderly leather belts. The mane, hoofs, and tail are not glazed; the saddle decoration is glazed in green; the remaining parts of the horse are entirely glazed in brown. The shape of this horse is beautiful, its body handsome and correctly proportioned. A widely recognized treasure from the collection of National Museum of History, this horse adequately reflects people's love of horses and their military spirit in Tang Dynasty.
