Eco-Photo of the Formosan Zacco (Candidia barbatus) 台灣馬口魚
The Formosan Zacco has a wide blue-black stripe running down the center of its body starting from the gill cover. Mature male fish have nuptial tubercles on their snouts, while their pectoral and ventral fins are bright red. Formosan Zaccos prefer cool to warm waters, and possess good swimming abilities. They are often found in the middle and upper reaches of rivers. They are greedy eaters and like to stay in shadowy corners near the shores. They feed on algae and small benthic crustaceans and tend to vie for food.
