Wooden Fish

This wooden fish dates from the late years of the Qing dynasty to early ROC. An important item used during traditional worship ceremonies, it is valuable for research into contemporary folk culture. Carved from a single block of wood, the fish features a subtly smiling open mouth for better resonance. The body has been coated with red lacquer, while the tail has been lacquered black and gold, carved with simple strong lines. Important to be preserved as an example of traditional worship paraphernalia.
