Girl with Flowers

Oil painting, 145.5 x 112 cm, 1940

This short-haired flower girl finally relaxes as she prepares to go home after a hard day’s work. Her backlit face reveals faint signs of fatigue as she arranges the last bouquet of flowers. This piece by Li Mei-shu (1902-1983), a renowned Taiwanese artist, was selected for Japan’s most prestigious national fine arts exhibition and received the 1940 Celebration Award.
