Description

There is a collection of 1,765 jade pieces of various kinds preserved at the National Museum of History. Ancient jade collection comprises prehistoric horseshoe-shaped jades from the Hongshan area, jade vessels of the Spring and Autumn Period unearthed from the two tombs at Liulige in Hui Country, Henan, and jade tablets, dragon-shaped pendants, annular jade pendants, semi-annular jade pendants, and the archer’s thumb rings dug up at Xinzheng, Henan. New jade collection comprises flat jade pieces from the Shang, Zhou, and Han dynasties, the jade ruyi scepter with nine handles as a tribute given by the king of Vietnam to Emperor Qianlong of the Qing dynasty, the “Green Jade Thumb Ring”, “Green Jade Belt Hook”, crystal court beads and red agate incense burners. These are all among the finest jade objects. New and old jade collections at the National Museum of History have formed a unique and complete exhibition that will be of great interest to those engaged in the study and appreciation of jade.
