The Du Xiang-Guo Collection (Academia Sinica)Type Collection Collection Identifier c0528 Description Du Xiang-Guo (1893-1946) was born in Dajia, Taichung County. He and his father, Du Qing (1869-1937), devoted to the refinement of straw hats. Du Qing founded the first private company in Taiwan and he was the first to set up factories to produce Dajia straw hats with mass production method and led Dajia straw hats into European and American markets. The database collects the commercial letters and non-commercial letters. The former provides the first-hand sources of commercial development during the period of Japanese rule. The latter contains letters among Du Xiang-Guo and his family, schoolmates, in-laws and friends who were also interested in poem-writing. The non-commercial letters reveal the social background of education, culture, friendship among local families and poem society under Japanese rule.
