Book Collections on Taiwan under Japanese Rule, 1895-1945 (Academia Sinica)Type Collection Collection Identifier c0522 Description Japanese old books are collected by Institute of Taiwan, previously held by Imperial Taiwan Library, Southern Materials Center and partly purchased from the Japanese professor of Taiwan university after the war, included books, periodicals, newspapers, communiqué. Imperial Taiwan Library was the only official library during Japanese colonial period. Its collection was an important source for Taiwan’s research. Subject of its collection included colonial management, aboriginal policy, colonial business, law, religion, sociology, medicine and research materials of South Asia. Since 2004, The Institute of Taiwan History had digitalized 150,000 Japanese old books and created an online database to the public. Until September 2007, the project had provided digital contexts for 1,255 books, 29,891 essays and 17,860 graphic images.
