The bulk of the museum specimens are fossils from the Cenozoic layer in Taiwan, while other sources include mainland China, Indonesia, Japan, Russia, Europe, Africa, North America, South America, and Australia. Up to now, the museum has a collection of more than 13,500 invertebrate fossils, mainly consisting of: (1) Macrofossils- coelenterates (including existing ones), brachiopods, molluscs, arthropods, echinoderms, graptolites, amounting to a total of approximately 11,000 items. (2) Microfossils- foraminifers, radiolarians, mussel shrimp, bryozoans, amounting to a total of approximately 2,500 items. In addition, the museum also holds sixty valuable Chengjiang biota fossil specimens, including algae, poriferans, priapulida, echinoderms, brachiopods, arthropods, cephalochorda, trace fossils and several animal and algae specimens of unknown classification.
