Vertebrate Fossils (National Museum of Natural History)Type Collection Collection Identifier c0321 Description There are currently 4,500 fossils of vertebrates in the collection of the Museum of Natural History, collected from Taiwan, China and other places around the world. Specimens date from the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras, and include classes Chondrichthyes, Osteichthyes, Amphibia, Sauropsida, Aves and Mammalia. Fossils from Taiwan are mainly fossils of mammals found by fishermen these past two decades in the Penghu Trench. Others in the collection include valuable specimens from all around the world, such as Dicynodon from the Permian Period, Stenopterygius from the Jurassic Period, Brontotherium from the Oligocene Period, and Mammuthus primigenius from the Pleistocene Epoch.
