Insects (National Museum of Natural Science)Type Collection Collection Identifier c0307 Description The current goal of the insect department is the collection of insect and mite specimens of Taiwan, aiming to expand to those from the Asian Pacific region and the entire world. The orders Lepidoptera and Homoptera are the main focus, with specimens including mounted specimens, slide specimens, wet specimens, nest specimens, frozen and gall specimens. There are currently around 400,000 specimens in the collection, including specimens regularly collected with Malaise traps in medium to high altitudes in Taiwan, specimens collected by Jhang Bao-Sin, and specimens collected in insect surveys on Orchid Isand. In addition to specimen collecting, the department also collects published textual documentation of new Taiwanese species, related identification material and Taiwanese type specimen data, and exchanges specimens and data with organizations around the world; our aim is to become the center for Taiwanese insect specimens and data, and to facilitate research with the museum's resources.
