Description

Prints at the National Museum of History can be divided into traditional folk prints, modern prints, and Japanese ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world). Most of the traditional folk prints were renowned local works made during the Qing dynasty and are rich in artistic and academic value. Modern works are award-winning pieces featuring varied styles and innovative techniques. The collection of ukiyo-e comprises Katsushika Hokusai’s 36-picture set “Views of Mount Fuji”, and the works by several masters of the Kunisada school. The prints, significant in number and exceptional in quality, constitute an important part of the Museum’s collection.
