Work environments should be safe and healthy. Through November 18, 2012, the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung presents this exhibition to promote an understanding of the importance of work environment, various risk factors in workplaces, and how to prevent from occupational accidents.

A Dialogue with the Space and Time

How we perceive the surrounding world depends upon the domain of "time" and "space." Space decides the location, while time – which seems to be a ubiquitous concept – points to an unchangeable direction from the past toward the future. As the 19th Century physiologist Jacob Molechit describes photosynthesis, life can be considered as something “woven by light with air.” As one of the main elements which construct the world, the “time axis” of light puts everything in order and makes “space” recognizable out of the chaotic darkness. Showcased at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung until November 11, 2012, the exhibition attempts to provide a discussion about the storage and the re-presentation of images. .....

Crush on EMU

“Crush on EMU” is co-curated by Huang Chien-Hung and Chang Ching-Wen. While the title, EMU, uses the initials of Electronic-Mobile-Ubiquitous to point out the change and formation of the three stages of the digital era, it also simultaneously corresponds to the French term, ému (as in “Je suis ému”), as an epitome of modern people’s reliance on the humanitarian environment and vision of the new digital technology. This exhibition at Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei includes work by 28 contemporary Taiwanese artists. .....

John Thomson: The Journey to Formosa, China and Southeast Asia 1865 ~1871

In 1871, John Thomson captured the images of Ta-kow (Takao/Dagou, now Kaohsiung) Port via his camera on his trip to Formosa (Taiwan), leaving us beautiful early photographic records of Kaohsiung. Through his camera lens, the oriental and poetic images of Ta-kow Port against a vast sky and ocean demonstrate a type of unique aesthetics. This exhibition, which is currently showing at Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts until October 28, 2012, displays a total of 250 photographic works by Thomson of Formosa, China and Southeast Asia, allowing viewers to travel back in time and to experience the unique cultural and social facets of Asia over 100 years ago. .....

Shiou-Ping Liao and the Development of Modern Printmaking in Taiwan

The name Shiou-Ping Liao is practically synonymous with printmaking in Taiwan. Dedicated to promoting modern Taiwanese printmaking, Liao has made indelible contributions to the development of modern printmaking in Taiwan. Through October 21, 2012, this exhibition at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung uses Liao’s works as the main narrative. It features 70 of his print works along with 83 works by 32 other well-known Taiwanese artists. In addition to presenting the evolution of his creative printmaking style in detail and elucidating his critical role in the development of modern printmaking in Taiwan, .....
