Academy Presidents’ Forum – Roles of the Academies in Creating a Better World

“The Roles of the Academies in Creating a Better World” is the topic of a 3-day gathering of the Presidents of National Academies and academic leaders from all over the world in celebrating the 80th birthday of Academia Sinica, Taiwan’s foremost research institution. The meeting will be held at Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan on December 6~8, 2008. The discussions will focus on three themes: “How should modern science academies be structured to best drive knowledge-based development?” “How can academies of different types best contribute to this effort?” and “How can the scientific community contribute to solutions to environmental problems?” (http://apforum.sinica.edu.tw/)


 
PNC 2008 Annual Conference

The PNC 2008 Annual Conference in conjunction with ECAI (Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative) and JVGC (Japan-Vietnam Geoinfomatics Consortium) will be held at Hanoi University of Technology, Ha Noi, Vietnam on December 4~6, 2008. The main theme of the conference is “Information Technology for a Sustainable and Creative Humanosphere.” There will be a session on international cooperation in the digitization of libraries, a session on strategies for digital archive development and a session on the integrated Buddhist archives network (IBA-net). All librarians, scholars, museum professionals, educators, site managers, and those working with cultural materials and technology are welcome.

Licensing International Expo 2008 – Taiwan Pavilion

The National Science Council will hold a TELDAP achievement exhibition at NSC's Technology Building, Taipei, Taiwan, on July 16, 2008. This "Creative Taiwan – Best Idea for You" exhibition (www.creativetaiwan.com.tw) showcases the contents and accomplishments of the Taiwan Pavilion at the "Licensing International Expo 2008" held in New York in June.

Being one of the biggest events of its kind, the "Licensing International Expo" serves as the world's grand licensing marketplace. The Taiwan Pavilion attracted buyers from USA, UK, Brazil, India, Korea, Sweden, Russia, etc.; and resulted in the signing of licensing agreements in various areas such as arts, comics, animation, graphic design, and literature. The total amount in Taiwan dollars is estimated to be 670 million.
 

 
The annual meeting of the Museum Computer Network (MCN) Taiwan

The Museum Computer Network (MCN) Taiwan Chapter will hold its 2008 Annual Meeting at National Palace Museum on Friday March 14. The objective of this meeting is to provide participants a forum to learn how Taiwan's museums currently utilize information technology, how computer network technology can be applied to manage museum collections and facilitate museum affair, and how to collaborate and interchange with international organizations.

The new Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program
 
 
In January 2008, the National Science Council's National Digital Archives Program (NDAP) and e-Learning National Project (ELNP) are merged into Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program (TELDAP). This is another key milestone for the government on its road to building digital contents from leading museums, universities, research institutes, and other content holders in Taiwan; and promoting e-Learning for every citizen of Taiwan.
