Myriad Forms in the Tip of a Brush: The Art of Calligraphy by Zhu Yunming

Zhu Yunming (1461-1527), a native of Changzhou (modern Suzhou), was exceptionally talented since childhood. He was already capable of writing large Chinese characters by the age of five and could compose poetry when he was nine. Zhu later became a learned scholar and was known with Wen Zhengming, Tang Yin, and Xu Zhenqing as one of the “Four Talents of Wu,” a regional name referring to Suzhou. Zhu achieved particular renown in calligraphy, excelling in all script types to become known along with Wu Zhengming and Wang Chong as one of the “Three Masters of Wu.” The National Palace Museum in Taipei is home to excellent collections of Zhu’s calligraphy. .....

NPM's Anime Carnival

The National Palace Museum in Taipei houses more than 650,000 treasured items, including ceramics, jades, coins, paintings, bronze, calligraphy, yet less than ten thousands of items can be displayed in the Museum at the same time due to limited exhibition/gallery space. Moreover, an artwork in the Museum’s painting and calligraphy collection is displayed for no more than three months at a time in order to protect these ancient treasures from damages caused by environmental conditions such as lighting. This limitation of display gradually highlights the role of technology in the field of arts.
