Hokutolite is a mineral of very rare occurrence world-wide. It crystallizes from precipitation from hot spring water of geothermal valley at Beitou. Of the several thousand minerals in existence, hokutolite is the only one named after a place in Taiwan. Hokutolite contains traces of rare and radioactive elements. Hokutolite is precious mineral and the pride of Taiwan.
