Aerial Films of Taiwan

Taiwan is an island of enchanting scenic beauty with majestic mountains, rolling hills, tranquil flatlands, shimmering lakes, and exquisite beaches.

The Yushan main peak, west of the Central Mountain Range, rises 3952 meters above sea level and is the highest mountain peak in Northeast Asia. Kenting, at the southern tip of Taiwan, is a place with rich topography. There are sand and coral reef seashores, isolated rock formations and mountains, and a light tower. Nantou, in central Taiwan, is Taiwan’s only landlocked county. It experienced a strong earthquake in 1999; ridges were shaved and mountain tops leveled off its Jiujiu Peak (99 Peaks). Sun Moon Lake, located in Nantou, is the largest natural lake in Taiwan and home to the Thao aboriginal tribe. In the middle of the lake is Lalu Islet, holy ground of the Thao people.

Chi Po-lin, a Taiwanese photographer, has spent more than 800 hours shooting pictures and videos of Taiwan from helicopters. His work, the “Taiwan Aerial Imaging” series, provides a grand view of the landscapes of Taiwan. Chi once said, “What an aerial photographer can do is to take a snap shot of the unique shape or wonderful colors of a particular landscape, as historical witness to the land." Taiwan’s magnificent sceneries shown in his pictures and videos broaden our experience and strengthen our appreciation of this land.
