Stag beetles

Beetles are most diverse in number or species among insects. Of which stage beetles are very popular by their large size and hung mandibles. Yushiro Miwa, a former taxonomist at the TARI, studied stag beetles of Taiwan in 1930s. He published three new species of stag beetles: Dorcits grandis formosanus Miwa, Dorcus yamadai (Miwa), and Dorcus mochizukii (Miwa). Dorcus grandis formosanus is a protected species in Taiwan. For those taxonomist interested in Taiwanese stage beetles, the TARI is a research institute where they can not miss.
