Tomb Owner Receiving Audience

Tags: art | Han dynasty | shrine | tomb

On the right-hand side of the upper panel, sitting under the watch-tower of a storied building and facing left is the tomb owner receiving audience. On the left-hand side are large tree, vehicle, and horse. This was the most frequently seen arrangement on the back wall of Han dynasty shrines in Shantung. It represents the tomb owner receiving worship and sacrificial offering from his offspring. The original stone is now kept in Chia-hsiang County, Shantung Province.
