Photo of Chen Qingzhong
Chen Qingzhong, the father of American football in Taiwan, was the captain of the American football team at the time of this picture (authorized by Tamkang High School History Hall). He is well-known as a pioneer in sports, music and education. His instrumental role in launching Mustard Seed has contributed greatly to his historical status. He was the founder and initial distributor of Mustard Seed, serving as both editor and main contributor throughout the publication’s early stages. After 1925, he began translating western literature, philosophy, mythology and other ideological works into the Taiwanese vernacular, and published his work in both Mustard Seed and Taiwan Church News. These groundbreaking efforts opened a very important path for Taiwanese literature during the Japanese Colonial Period.
