Description The digital collection is the Han wooden slips collected in the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica. The majority of the collections (about more than 11,000 pieces) are the “Han Chü-yen Wooden Slips” excavated in the Edsen-gol River, Inner Mongolia and Gansu Province by the Swedish archaeologist Folke Bergman between the years of 1930 to 1931. The rest include the “Han Lop-nor Wooden Slips” (58 pieces) found by Huang Wen- i in Yen, Xinjiang Province in 1930 and 1934, the “Han Dunhuang Xiaofangpan Wooden Slips” (76 pieces) and the “Han Lama Bay of Mount Wuwei Wooden Slips” (7 pieces) found by Xia Nai and Yen Wen-ru in 1944 and 1945 when they did a survey at the sites of Yumen Gate, Yang Gate, and the those along the Han frontier defense line in Juyen area. Those slips unearthed in the border outpost of Han Dynasty give us a direct and vivid record of the military, legal systems, educational practices, economy, religious beliefs, and daily life of the local military personnel and civilians from the middle and late Western Han to the early Eastern Han.
